Updated: Jun 16, 2022

There is no one-size-fits-all health regime that works for everyone, every time. For instance, women don’t have the same physiological makeup as men, so women carry weight and lose weight differently than men and have to address common health issues differently. The female body also comes in various heights, shapes, and sizes; therefore, what works for one woman may not work for you.

It’s easy to feel defeated when a health tip, trick, or plan doesn’t work for you. But the only way to win is to try and try again—until you find the healthy living style that fits your body and season of life! Brand New Me is here with some practical information and advice to help you on your journey.

Being Smarter with Smart Tech

Technology has made leaps and bounds in assisting users with improving their health. Fitness apps can help to keep you accountable. Smartwatches will track your movement and heart rate. Beds can now monitor the quality of your sleep. And smartphones can help keep you motivated with podcasts, books, and music.

Consider investing in tech that can make you more aware of your body and identify areas that call for improvement. And look into products that will protect your devices, such as quality screen protectors and cases, to ensure their usability for years to come.

Matters of the Heart

Most studies about heart disease are centered around men. This has led society to believe that men are more prone to heart disease and that the symptoms of a heart attack would mirror those of men. Nonetheless, women are six times more likely to die from a heart attack than breast cancer, and most women don’t know much (or anything) about symptoms or screening. There are some basic things you can do to reduce coronary risks, such as:

  • Not smoking

  • Eating a heart-healthy diet

  • Treating depression

  • Practicing stress-reducing techniques

  • Maintaining a healthy BMI

Remember that these are just starting points. There are many factors that can lead to heart disease, diabetes, and other health conditions, so make it a priority to learn as much as you can.

Understanding Weight Management

It’s a hard-and-true fact that women have a harder time losing weight than men. Biology is partly to blame (i.e., the difference in metabolism, hormones, muscle mass, and brain processes). Behaviors or learned habits are the other culprits. Whether you’re just beginning your health journey, getting back into the flow of things, or need a completely new direction, it’s critical that you know your ultimate motivation. Specifically, why are you making the health changes? Knowing that “why” will keep you moving forward when it gets hard.

Consider getting a journal to keep track of the things that work for you and those that don’t. Record all the details of your progress and setbacks. This might include writing down the foods that make you feel energetic or lethargic. You might keep a log of any environmental, social, or emotional triggers that lead to unhealthy eating. Or you might explore various exercise routines to find what benefits you the most and fits into your lifestyle.

While educating yourself on weight loss will help you build a strong foundation for change, maintaining a journal will shed light on behavioral and biological factors. Thus, you will know how to modify your choices and ultimately keep yourself moving in the right direction.

There is no one like you. And your strategies for losing weight and preventing common health issues will depend on your unique physiological makeup and body. The key is to educate yourself on weight loss, heart disease, and other issues in relation to women. Then, you can experiment with healthy habits and track your progress to determine what works best for you!
