Reduce Screen Time & Improve Health When Working at a Computer All Day

Regardless of whether you’re working from home or in an office, you may spend most of your day staring at a screen. This is actually really bad for your health in more ways than one. Firstly, too much screen time can hurt your eyes and damage your vision. In turn, this can also lead to chronic headaches or migraines. The light emitted by computer screens has also been proven to disrupt the hormones in our body, particularly ones relating to sleep. In short, too much screen time prevents you from getting a good night’s sleep. As a result, you see all the health concerns that come from a lack of sleep.

How do you reduce screen time when your job literally demands it?

It sounds like an impossible task, but there are a few ideas you can call upon that will keep your eyes away from a screen:

Make use of templates

Templates are pre-structured formats that you fill in to create specific documents. They are very useful if you want to spend less time doing your tasks. With templates, most of your work has been done for you, and you just have to input the data. You can find so many document templates for all kinds of work in so many industries. Work in a law firm? It shows here, https://www.templafy.com/law-firm-document-assembly/ that you can seamlessly create legal templates for all of your documents. Work in accounting? It’s easy to find templates for common financial documents that you can load up as you need them. No matter where you work, templates help you get through your tasks a lot quicker, reducing screen time.

Automate as many tasks as possible

Secondly, you can call upon automation to speed up a lot of your regular tasks. This revolves around the idea that you don’t actually have to do anything. Instead, a piece of software will complete the task for you, freeing up your time. A great example of this is a chatbot that answers questions for you. You can see that I use Ascend by Wix on this site, and it’s such an easy way to reduce your workload. Instead of spending hours responding to clients or customers, you let the chatbot do it for you. This can significantly lower the time you spend looking at a screen.

Stay away from your desk if you’re not working

This is the area that I personally struggle with doing regularly. If you don’t have any work to do, then stay away from your computer. So many probably spend lunch staring at your screen as you read articles or watch videos. You can add a few hours onto your weekly screen time by doing this. Instead, get up, walk around, stretch, and have lunch outside or elsewhere. Take yourself away from your screen if you don’t technically need to stare at it right now.

See, it is possible to reduce your screen time and improve health when working at a computer all day. I’ll also add that you should consider light blocking glasses for when you’re working. These glasses block out the harmful light given off by computer screens, which further prevents any of the bad health issues.
