How to Treat Yourself with Love and Kindness to Improve Your Wellbeing

How do you talk to your best friend? Do you ever look at them and tell them their clothes don’t fit or they aren’t looking their best today? Of course you don’t. You treat your friends with the kindness and respect they deserve. Now, what about yourself? Do you ever look in the mirror and berate yourself over the way you look in a certain outfit, over the lines around your eyes, or the smile you have? Chances are there is something you don’t like about yourself and you are the first to see it and notice it, every day. What is more, the likelihood is that you are the only one who doesn’t like these bits and you are the only one giving yourself a hard time over it. The way you see yourself and the way you talk to yourself will have a knock-on effect on your wellbeing, body positivity, and self-esteem, so learning to treat yourself with the love and kindness you treat others can go a long way. Here are some ways you can treat yourself with respect and in turn boost your self-esteem and wellbeing.

Treat yourself

How much money do you spend on yourself? What about others? People don’t think twice about buying for their children or loved ones but when it comes to treating themselves to that new pair of boots they fall to the bottom of the list. Treating yourself just because you look good in something can do wonders to elevate your mood, self-esteem, and give you that feel-good factor, so don’t put it off or look for justification, go ahead and treat yourself.

Seek help

If you think you need a little more than a bit of retail therapy to help improve your mood and wellbeing then seek professional help. There is no shame or stigma in putting yourself first and getting expert help to look after your wellbeing. In fact, it is one of the most compassionate things you can do for yourself. Look into the type of therapies and treatments that are available and what may be of benefit to you. It may be that you don’t want to visit your physician right away, in which case consider alternatives that may be available to help improve your wellbeing, it could by way of Ketamine therapy or talk therapy for example. You can look after yourself in many forms but to ensure your wellbeing on a day-to-day basis be sure to prioritize a few of the basics. These include ensuring you get a decent amount of good quality sleep every night, that you undertake regular exercise and that you eat a balanced and nutritious diet every day. All of these should be seen as acts of kindness to yourself and will go a long way to ensuring your mental and physical wellbeing remain intact.
