Take Care of Your Teeth

We’re tempted by sugar on a daily basis and this can be bad for our teeth. Of course, we clean our teeth, floss, use mouthwash, and like to visit the dentist on a regular basis. But as part of your dental care routine, you should also try to reduce sugar in your diet. This will help too!

Eat Well

All too many people looking to get “healthy” equate healthiness with losing weight. This isn’t always the case. If you are overweight or obese, it may be true that losing weight will allow you to become healthier and live a more full life. But you need to do this properly, possibly with medical supervision. You don’t want to fall into the trap of picking up fad diets or completely cutting your calories and pushing your body into starvation. Instead, the key to success is a healthy, balanced diet. If you eat well and in moderation, you will lose the weight you need and be able to maintain your goal weight when you get there. If you’re underweight, a doctor will be able to guide you on a path to gain the weight that will benefit your body in a healthy manner. If you are a recommended weight for your height, age, and other factors, a balanced diet will help you to maintain your weight. The recommended calories you eat will differ according to factors such as lifestyle, sex, age, and more. The below could serve as a good guide:

  • Children aged 2 to 8 - 1000 to 1400 calories

  • Girls aged 9 to 13 - 1400 to 1600 calories

  • Boys aged 9 to 13 - 1600 to 2000 calories

  • Active women aged 14 to 30 - 2400 calories

  • Sedentary women aged 14 to 30 - 1800 to 2000 calories

  • Active men aged 14 to 30 - 2800 to 3200 calories

  • Sedentary men aged 14 to 30 - 2000 to 2600 calories

  • Active adults over 30 - 2000 to 3000 calories

  • Sedentary adults over 30 - 1600 to 2400 calories

Make sure that all of your meals are balanced. This means avoiding cutting any food groups out completely, instead eating the recommended food groups in moderation. Try to fit in plenty of fruit, vegetables, and other healthy foods whenever possible.

These are just a couple of areas to focus on. There are, of course, countless other things you can do. But these two will get your journey towards better health started in the right direction!
