My journey has been different because I eat Little Caesar's nearly every week (3 slices pepperoni, trying to nab the biggest ones) and tons of pasta. Most weight loss plans have you reduce or completely eliminate these types of foods. The only one I've completely eliminated is soda.

For me it's all about portion control and incorporating fruits and veggies into your meals. Forget the 5 a day recommendation for fruits and veggies; just eat as many you want. I started out my journey eating only one a day regularly. I personally would tire of the fruits and veggies if I stuck to 5 since I don't yet like that many.
